the same version of GECS. This document assumes your remote client is a “client only” installation.
Follow the steps below.
1. Install and configure each separate GECS installation (i.e. QA, Production and Disaster Recovery).
2. Install and configure GECS on your remote client machine to access one of the environments (for example, QA). This will create a local configuration file, GECS. INI for that environment.
3. Copy this local configuration file and name it GECS1.INI.
4. Update the icon properties for your Administrator program. Change the target to point to the new .INI file. For example, C:\GECSADMIN.EXE -C: c:\winnt\GECS1.INI
5. Update the Title of the Administrator Icon to something like QA Administrator.
6. After making these changes, test the Administrator icon to be sure when you open it you can still see your data.
7. Close the Administrator program and run the Workstation Setup program on this remote client machine again to point to a different environment by changing the DBMS information and optionally, the direct data path location if it is being used. This time we will do the Production environment. When workstation setup is complete, you should see a new icon for the Administrator and your GECS.INI file should be updated with information that points to your production environment.
8. Again, copy this local configuration file and name it GECS2.INI.
9. Update the icon properties for your Administrator program. Change the target to point to the new .INI file. For example, C:\GECSADMIN.EXE -C: c:\winnt\GECS2. INI
10. Update the Title of the Administrator Icon to something like Production Administrator.
11. After making these changes, test the Administrator icon to be sure when you open it you can see your data and that it now points to your Production environment.
12. Follow these same steps again for any additional environment(s). |
